Gender Discrimination

Gender Discrimination.Male.Female

In India, discriminatory attitudes towards women have existed for generations and affects women over their lives.
There are limited opportunities for women such as education, health care services & job opportunities to women as they decide the future of India. Women are disadvantaged at work and are often underestimated for their capabilities. This has prevented women from achieving a higher standard of living.
Over the past century there has been much to rejoice about the positive development of women in India i.e., increased visibility of women in the public sphere, closing of gender gaps in primary and secondary school enrollment  the presence of women in the labour force across international borders, and lower fertility rates. Also a few women’s organisations have been able to raise issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, violence against women and inequality of power in gender relations and make these the pivotal issues of debate in national and global arenas.

These days women are also involved in many outdoor activities. Mostly jobs. People used to think that a woman is only fit for household works. But today women have proved to be better than men. The following graph shows that how the number of women in urban areas are increasing. This is a good sign for the growth of a country i.e., women and men are having equal chances of doing any work. But still this is only in urban areas. There are also many sectors in which the men are ahead and women are lacking behind.

Women have to be considered as equal participants in shaping the future society in India. It is not enough for poor women to earn more; she must have control over her earnings in order to continue to be productive. She must experience the benefits of that increased income. For many women, the process will involve confronting established social norms and hence the emphasis on striving for social change. If every men has the same thought a day will come when men and women will live on the same platform and there will be no discrimination between the two.

Types of Discrimination Against Women
The various forms of discrimination against women are as follows:

    • Abortion,
    • Not allowed to go to school,
    • No health care when craved,
    • Unequal salary for the same post in any company,
    • More and more dowry demands,
    • Child marriage,
    • Harassment, etc.
Like male or even above them female plays

important role in the family and national

development. But her contribution is not

recognized by the male dominant society.

Solution for Gender Discrimination
To solve the gender discrimination problem the EEEESD factor would be very useful. The EEEESD factors are :
1. Education : Not only the female, the society must be educated to give equal right for female.

2. Employment : Employment gives the income and improves the economic position of the women. Employed women are given importance by the family members. Employment gives the economic independence for the women.

3. Economic Independence : Economic

independence will free the women from the

slavery position and boost the self confidence.

Economic  independence of women also helps in

the national economic development.

4. Empowerment : Empowering women with the help of laws, education and employment will make the society to accept the women as an equal gender like male. Female also has  all the potential and empowering women will help to use her full capability and mitigate the economic dependency of women.

5. Self Confidence : Boosting the  morale and self confidence of the women, is the key to eliminate the inferior complex of her.

6. Decision Making : To end gender discrimination women must empower with decision making power.
